About

The Jamaica Community Foundation PDX was born out of witnessing the overwhelming needs following the devastation of Hurricane Melissa in October 2025. I was born and raised in Jamaica, and after high school, I migrated to the United States. No matter where life has taken me, Jamaica has always remained home in my heart.

Recently, Jamaica was struck by a Category 5 hurricane, with winds reaching 180 miles per hour. The destruction was unimaginable. Many people I personally know lost their homes, their belongings, and their sense of stability overnight.

Seeing this devastation compelled me to act. I knew I had to do my part. I gathered a group of dedicated and compassionate friends who shared my desire to make a difference. Together, we formed the Jamaica Community Foundation PDX to support the people in my community who are in urgent need of rebuilding their lives.

With the support of friends and the community, we have already raised over $16,000 and have begun sending essential items to those affected.

Our mission is simple: to provide relief, restore hope, and help rebuild stronger communities for the future.
